Visit this vibrant, southern Baltic country for baroque architecture, beautiful churches, and old-growth forests. In the capital, Vilnius, start in the medieval Old Town and visit Cathedral Square and the neo-classical Vilnius Cathedral, see the delicate Church of St. Anne, before a stop at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, a former Catholic monastery complex.  See the Gate of Dawn, a remnant of the city’s 16th-century defensive wall, or the former KGB Headquarters, a reminder of the country’s Soviet occupation. Take your Lithuania vacation outside of the city and explore Trakai Castle, built in the 14th century on an island in Lake Galve. In the north, the unusual Christian pilgrimage site, the Hill of Crosses, is a remarkable memorial of over 100,000 crosses. On the coast, explore the dunes of Curonian Spit National Park.

How many months in advance should I plan a trip to Lithuania?

We recommend planning trips to Lithuania 4–10 months in advance, especially for peak seasons like summer and the holiday markets in December. Airlines don’t publish fares much further out than 10-11 months. Off-peak (April–May, October–November), you can book for better deals 3–6 months in advance. Luckily, we take care of all of that for you! If travelers want to go for a special anniversary or event, they’ll call us years ahead of time to book so they know they are set and we're handling the details for them. While we love a great last-minute getaway, always ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after you plan to return to the States. Keep current with country entry restrictions, and ensure you have any visas you’ll need to travel. Planning earlier allows you plenty of time to renew your passport or apply for a visa if required.

Is Lithuania a safe country to visit?

Hungary is considered a safe country for tourists. Like any other country, staying aware of your surroundings and following standard travel safety practices is important.
