Medical Issues Abroad
Customs & Immigration
You are required to declare your belongings when you enter. Customs declaration forms are available on the plane, the ship, or at the Customs office. Items you cannot take into or out of the country include: fresh fruit, fire arms, ammunition and explosives, narcotic drugs, animals and plants.
Medical Issues Abroad
To be on the safe side, if you have a history of any medical condition, you should bring a medical record. This would include: your blood type, immunization record, allergies, medications you are currently taking (both prescription and non-prescription), your doctor's name, address, phone number, emergency contact name and phone number, and your insurance company's name, address and phone number. Although tap water is safe, it would be a good idea to pack anti-diarrheal medicine, such as Imodium, as the change in cuisines, water and altitude can have an effect on your body's digestive system.
Traveling Safely
Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Hungarian is spoken everywhere, but some do speak English, more so near tourist attractions and in Budapest. Carry your passport at all times - it really should not leave your possession during your entire journey. It can be replaced while you are abroad, but it is not easy. Public transportation is clean, economical and efficient. Taxis are somewhat expensive, bikes can be rented at most train stations and boats can be taken to around the many canals and waterways.
