Customs & Immigration
|
| You are required to declare your belongings when you enter. Customs declaration forms are available on the plane, the ship, or at the Customs office.
Items you cannot take into or out of the country include: fresh fruit, fire arms, ammunition and explosives, narcotic drugs, animals and plants.

Medical Issues Abroad
|
| To be on the safe side, if you have a history of any medical condition, you should bring a medical record. This would include: your blood type, immunization record, allergies, medications you are currently taking (both prescription and non-prescription), your doctor's name, address, phone number, emergency contact name and phone number, and your insurance company's name, address and phone number.
Although tap water is safe, it would be a good idea to pack anti-diarrheal medicine, such as Imodium, as the change in cuisines, water and altitude can have an effect on your body's digestive system.
Precautions against encephalitis and lyme disease should be taken.

Traveling Safely
|
| Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Slovak, Hungarian and German are spoken, but a handful of people here and there do speak English. Carry your passport at all times - it really should not leave your possession during your entire journey. It can be replaced while you are abroad, but it is not easy.
Traveling around Slovakia by both rail and bus is easy and efficient, though buses cost less. Traveling by car is also pleasant, as roadways are in good condition.
