Tips for a Comfortable Flight
To maximize comfort during your flight, wear comfortable clothing, eat lightly, rest, and drink plenty of water. Try to abstain from alcoholic beverages and caffeinated drinks, which promote dehydration. To minimize the inconvenience of carrying baggage, try to pack the bulk of your belongings in a suitcase that can be checked-in and bring one small carry-on with some reading material, a toothbrush and toothpaste. If you can place the carry-on in an overhead compartment, then you'll have more room to stretch your legs. Make sure each piece of luggage is clearly marked with your name, address, and phone number.
Leaving Home
Grand European Tours recommends that you take all precautions with your home while you're traveling. Stopping your mail and newspaper delivery, and setting timers on some of the lights are ways to avoid obvious signs that you're gone. Always double check that you have your tickets, passport, visa if necessary, and money with you before leaving for the airport. For international travel, you should arrive at the airport three hours prior to departure - even earlier on heavy travel days.
When the Plane Lands
In all foreign countries, you'll go through customs as soon as you land. You'll complete a customs card on board the plane and you'll need it at this point, so keep it handy along with your passport and visa. You will then pick up your luggage from baggage claim, and proceed to a checkpoint where your items may be searched. If you are a USA citizen arriving in an International terminal, you will be directed through a separate Customs area serving US Citizens re-entering the US. Once you've passed through customs, proceed to ground transportation. If you are with a FAR&WIDE tour group, you should look for the tour leader, who will be holding a FAR&WIDE sign at a designated meeting place.
