Today we head south through the arid landscape of Don Quixote’s La Mancha, with its typical white windmills. Then through the Sierra Morena Mountains to Cordoba, whose architectural monuments were built by the Romans, the Moors and early Christians. We visit the 8th-century Mosque of the Caliphs, famous for its 850 pillars of porphyry, marble and jasper. On leaving Cordoba, we continue along the fertile valley of the river Guadalquivir to arrive for 2 nights in Seville, the capital of Andalusia. The evening is at leisure but it is hard to resist the sights and sound of guitars, castanets, whirling skirts and of course the famous flamenco!

Day 5 Seville:
Our morning sightseeing tour with our local specialist is a step back in time as we observe 700 years of influence by the Moors. The afternoon is free to soak up the atmosphere of this Spanish jewel.

Day 9 Costa del Sol - Granada:
A short drive this morning takes us to the old Moorish capital of Granada, located at the foot of the spectacular Sierra Nevada. This afternoon we enjoy a highlight of any tour to Spain, a visit to the famed Alhambra; to pass through its gates is to enter an Arabian Night’s dream! A fantasy of “lace in stone,” surrounded by arabesque gardens and fountains, the Alhambra affords superb views of the Old Quarter and Sacromonte, a mountain occupied by Gypsy cave dwellers. We also enjoy a walk through the Water Gardens of the Generalife. This evening enjoy a Highlight Dinner of local specialties.

Our sightseeing here views the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral and visits the synagogue and Santo Tome, home of El Greco’s most famous painting. After time free for shopping for the famous damascened Toledo steel, we continue to Madrid. This evening, we enjoy a festive Highlight Farewell Dinner and say hasta la vista to the Best of Spain.
